Tickfaw State Park

After seeing pictures of Tickfaw State Park and their extremely nice cabins on facebook after a friend went last year I decided we needed to make the hour trip over and bring the boys to camp (cabin style) for a couple of days.

(These first few pics were from my phone, so they are smaller and grainy. Sorry!

We loaded up on junk food and fishing poles and headed out on Monday morning.

Here's the living room. It had a fireplace, pull out sofa bed, and flat screen tv.

The kitchen.

The "master" bedroom, a double bed.

The boys room. All the beds came with clean linens and pillows.

Nasty looking caterpillar

Kyle enjoying the scenery

Jackson trying to figure out the raccoon proof trash receptacles. He was amazed at the "technology".

Alligator enjoying the sun.

A friendly raccoon the kids quickly named Hickory after he took off in the woods with Colbys watch!

Hickory knew the sound of new campers! He showed up while we were unloading.

Trying their darnedest to start a fire for the firepit. They eventually had to steal a hot coal from the grill.

I just love these little boogers.

They tried for about 45 minutes to start a fire!

Aidan and his lizard friend.

Helping dad cook the dogs.

Hickory getting up close and personal.

This is Tyler and his good friend Logan. They killed a cottonmouth in the woods, skinned it, roasted it, and ate it. They are nasty. They also apparently rolled around in poison oak out there in the woods because they are both covered in a nasty rash right now and will probably have to go to the doc for help getting rid of it!

Hope you enjoyed checking out our little vacay!

What I'm watching

I am a big fan of Netflix. It's one of my favorite inventions! But it has spoiled me. Once I've gotten hooked on a particular show, I spend hours watching one episode after another. Now I hate having to wait a week to see a new episode!

It's nice to find a show that both you and your spouse can enjoy and watch together. Kyle and I started watching "Sherlock" after hearing a friend talking about it. I liked the premise of the show but the actor playing Sherlock creeps me out! So Kyle watches it alone. I told him if that guy ever cuts his hair or gets a tan to let me know, because I really wanna like the show! We've watched Friday Night Lights (the whole series), Downton Abbey (my favorite!), and we have just recently started Arrested Development (we hope to catch up to the new current season before it starts in a couple of weeks!)
So creepy...

Kyle is busy a lot of the time with work and school so I watch a lot of Netflix shows by myself.  Here are the most recent ones I have watched:

-The Tudors: This show is about Henry the 8th and his 6 wives. I learned so much history from this series. After I watched I went to my local library and got several books about Henry VIII to see how accurate the show really was. I feel like they took very few liberties and overall the show was pretty realistic. The downside is that there is a lot of s*x. I simply fast forwarded through those parts!
-Bomb Girls: I LOVE shows depicting life 1940-1950's and almost any show/movie about WWII. Bomb Girls is set in Canada during WWII when all the men were off to war leaving the women behind to work their jobs. It follows the lives of several women from very different backgrounds working in a bomb factory during wartime. I love it and Kyle watches it with me when he gets a chance.

-Pretty Little Liars: I started watching this one because all my friends were watching and I wanted to see what the big deal was. It took me a while to get into this one but now I really enjoy it. The storyline isn't that great but I really like the girls clothes, hair and makeup! It's basically a teenage soap opera. I watched all the Netflix episodes and now I am caught up to the current season that is on tv.

-Call the Midwife: This is another show set in the 1950's that I really enjoy. It's about midwives in the poorer areas of London. Like Pretty Little Liars I watched all the Netflix ones and now I watch the newest episodes online on PBS. I watch almost all my tv shows on my laptop. I have a few different reasons. Trying to watch my shows uninterrupted is basically impossible with 4 boys. I'd miss out of half the episode telling them to be quiet or hearing them fight or begging for snacks. If I watch the shows online, I can pause and respond to the kids without missing anything. Another reason that I watch shows on my laptop is because so much of what is on tv today is inappropriate for children. I love Dancing with the Stars but I don't want my boys and husband to watch these half dressed women gyrating around with guys on the dance floor! So I watch it online (the day after it airs on Hulu) after the boys have gone to bed.

-Army Wives: This is one of my favorite shows! It took me weeks to get through all the seasons on Netflix! I like it because it's sort of similar to life here on a seminary campus. All of our husbands are in school and working full time to support their families. We all live in close quarters and support each other. We often joke about how we could probably have a show called Seminary Wives that showcased all the crazy drama we wives deal with on campus!

Well, this post was a lot longer than I expected. I'll post next about my favorite prime time shows!

New Look!

So I decided to change things up here on the old blog. I have no idea what I am doing, or what the difference is between a template and a background. But this doesn't look so bad so I'll leave it a while until I figure this whole blog design thing out. In the meantime if you need me you can find me catching up on season 2 of Bomb Girls (love me some WWII drama!) all comfy in my bed. Thanks for stopping by!
