Homeschool 2013-2014

We are doing something a little different this year with school. Tyler and Colby will still be homeschooling, but they will be part of the K12 program here in Louisiana. Basically they will be doing public school at home. We chose this route for several reasons. One is that the boys need accountability and to answer to someone other than me. And with Tyler starting high school this year, I want to make sure he has all the classes he needs to graduate. Two is that it is much easier on the pocketbook! We receive all their books and materials from the school. The only thing we have had to buy so far are wireless adapters for the 2 computers the school sent for the boys to use. I am not sure how well Colby will do with the program since our homeschooling up to this point has been rather laid back and from what I hear K12 is very structured, but I will be around to help him as much as I can. Tyler is very motivated and I think he will do just fine. Can't believe I'm the mom of a high schooler...it's just so weird!

Now Aidan and Jackson will still do "regular" homeschooling with me. We are going to use My Father's World Creation to the Greeks this year.
Creation to the Greeks basic package

This curriculum will cover:
  • God's Hand in History
  • Creation Science
  • Jewish Traditions
  • Greek Roots
  • Hands-On Notebook
  • Pyramids
  • Inspiring Read-Alouds
  • Music and Art Appreciation

For Math we will still be using Math U See Gamma, where the boys will be learning multiplication.

We will be using First Language Lessons, level 3. We started this one last year, and will probably finish mid year and start on level 4.

First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind, Level 3--Student Workbook

Aidan will most likely take a writing course with the homeschool group here on campus.

I picked up a copy of Natural Speller earlier this year at a Lifeway sale so I am going to try that out.

For handwriting I just went to our local teacher supply store and picked up some print workbooks for Jackson and some cursive ones for Aidan.

I think that is everything. I'd love to blog a lot more this year and document more of our homeschooling, but we will see how it goes!
